Wyoming Debuts State-Backed FRNT Stablecoin

Wyoming has officially launched the Frontier Stable Token (FRNT), marking the first state-issued, dollar-pegged stablecoin in the United States. This initiative aims to streamline government payments and provide a usable digital currency accessible via Visa platforms globally.

Key Takeaways:

  • First State-Issued Stablecoin: FRNT is the first stablecoin issued by a US state government, backed by US dollars.
  • Broad Blockchain Support: The stablecoin operates on Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base, Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon, and Solana.
  • Overcollateralization: Wyoming law mandates FRNT to maintain 102% reserves in short-term US Treasuries and dollars.
  • Enhanced Payment Efficiency: FRNT can reduce government contractor payment times from 45 days to mere seconds.
  • Global Usability: FRNT is compatible with Visa, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, making it accessible anywhere Visa is accepted.

FRNT: Designed for Efficiency and Transparency

The Wyoming Stable Token Commission, established in 2023, oversees the governance and regulation of the FRNT project. The stablecoin operates on multiple leading blockchains.

Anthony Apollo, Executive Director of the Wyoming Stable Token Commission, noted, “While Wyoming has been the leading state for crypto, blockchain, and digital assets legislation for nearly a decade, the issuance of FRNT signals a paradigm shift. In addition to regulation, public entities now have a model for innovation that can make government processes significantly more efficient.”

A pilot program in July 2025 demonstrated FRNT’s efficiency, reducing payment timelines for government contractors from 45 days to seconds.

John Wu, President of Ava Labs, stated, “The launch of FRNT marks the first in-production use case of a state-issued stablecoin in the United States, proving blockchain-powered government can be efficient, transparent, and designed for public good.”

The FRNT project combines oversight from the Wyoming Stable Token Commission, blockchain infrastructure from Avalanche, and fintech integration from Rain.

Farooq Malik, CEO & Co-founder of Rain, remarked, “Today’s launch is a powerful example of Rain’s mission in action. We build a financial infrastructure that makes stablecoins like FRNT instantly usable anywhere in the world.”
