Vietnam Blockchain Association Partners with ACAMS to Strengthen AML Efforts

The Vietnam Blockchain Association (VBA) has announced a strategic partnership with the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) to become its exclusive partner in Vietnam. This collaboration aims to significantly enhance anti-money laundering (AML) training and develop a globally recognized pool of AML professionals within the country.

This initiative is a crucial step towards helping Vietnam exit the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list and strengthen its position in the global financial system. The partnership was officially announced during a VBA seminar on March 27, 2025, titled "Sharing experiences in managing centralized crypto exchanges."

Key Highlights of the Partnership:

  • Exclusive Partnership: VBA is the sole ACAMS partner in Vietnam.
  • International Standards: The partnership brings international-standard AML training to Vietnam's digital finance and blockchain sectors.
  • CAMS Certification: VBA Chairman Phan Duc Trung and Legal Director Nguyen Tran Minh Quan received their CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) certifications, highlighting the association's commitment to AML compliance.
  • Training and Development: ACAMS training courses on AML, anti-fraud, and counter-terrorist financing (CFT) will be delivered locally through ABAII Academy of Blockchain and AI Innovation.
  • Grey List Exit: The partnership plays a vital role in helping Vietnam meet international standards and potentially exit the FATF grey list.

Mr. Samuel Lay, ACAMS' Business Development Director in Asia, presented CAMS badges to Mr. Trung and Mr. Quan. He emphasized the importance of certified professionals in bolstering Vietnam's credibility within the global financial system. He further highlighted the partnership's role in strengthening compliance and mitigating risks related to AML and CFT, particularly within the rapidly expanding digital asset landscape.

Mr. Trung stated that this collaboration represents a significant milestone for VBA, signifying their commitment to aligning Vietnam with international AML best practices and fostering a transparent and secure crypto market. He further noted VBA's ongoing initiatives, including nine thematic workshops on virtual assets and the promotion of Prime Minister Decision No. 194/QĐ-TTg.

Mr. Quan, with his extensive legal background, highlighted the practical application of the CAMS certification for legal professionals, enabling them to provide more effective compliance guidance to businesses operating in the global financial landscape. The partnership also includes collaborations with training academies to ensure widespread access to AML training.
