Tether and UNODC Strengthen Africa's Cybersecurity

Tether has partnered with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to enhance cybersecurity measures in Africa. This strategic alliance is part of the UNODC's Vision for Africa 2030, which aims to secure digital assets and promote transparency in financial systems.

Key Points

  • Tether and UNODC collaborate to combat digital asset crime in Africa.
  • The initiative supports Africa's digital transformation by focusing on cybersecurity and financial transparency.

Amid rising crypto-related crimes, recent international operations have exposed significant amounts of illicit fiat and digital assets linked to fraud and terrorism financing. These findings underscore the need for robust cybersecurity, public education, and regulatory cooperation.

"Digital assets are reshaping financial interactions globally and are central to Africa's digital transformation," said Ghada Waly, UNODC Executive Director. "Tether's expertise will be instrumental in combating illicit activities and fostering progress across African communities."

Tether will provide technical support and resources to bolster cybersecurity awareness and improve legal and financial frameworks in Africa. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts in supporting vulnerable communities and preventing exploitation through this collaboration.
