Sui Blockchain Restores Operations After 6-Hour Downtime

Blockchain

The layer-1 Sui blockchain has resumed full operations following a six-hour disruption that halted transactions on the high-speed network. Despite a fix from the Sui core developers, the Sui Foundation has not disclosed the specific cause of the outage.

Network Disruption Resolved

The Sui Foundation confirmed the outage on Wednesday at 3:24pm UTC, notifying its 1.1 million followers on X that developers were working on a solution. The issue was resolved by 8:44pm UTC, restoring network functionality after 5 hours and 52 minutes.

Second Major Outage Since Launch

This incident marks the second major outage for Sui since its launch in May 2023. A previous disruption occurred in November 2024. Similar issues have been faced by other blockchain networks, such as Solana, which has implemented emergency updates to address critical issues.

Market Reaction

SUI token prices remained largely stable, though they briefly spiked by 4% following news of the network's recovery before stabilizing around $1.84, according to CoinGecko data.
