Strategy Vaults Past NVIDIA Into Top 10 U.S. Treasuries
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has entered the top 10 largest U.S. corporate treasuries, overtaking NVIDIA. This milestone is driven by the company’s Bitcoin holdings as its primary reserve asset, which has benefited from the recent Bitcoin rally.
Strategy Now Holds 9th Largest U.S. Corporate Treasury
Strategy announced via an X post that its treasury now ranks 9th among S&P 500 companies with the largest corporate treasuries. Surpassing NVIDIA, a company with a market cap of $4.2 trillion, marks a significant achievement.
Strategy's treasury reserve stands at $71 billion, trailing only Berkshire Hathaway, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Ford, Meta, and General Motors. Uniquely, Strategy holds Bitcoin as its primary reserve asset, distinguishing it from other companies that primarily hold cash and cash equivalents.
The company's rise to 9th place is attributed to the recent surge in Bitcoin's price, which reached an all-time high of $123,000. The active accumulation of Bitcoin gives Strategy an advantage over companies holding traditional assets.
Strategy expanded its treasury to 601,550 BTC with a $472.5 million Bitcoin purchase. The company acquired these coins for $42.87 billion at an average price of $71,268 per BTC, resulting in an unrealized profit of nearly $30 billion.
This strategy began in August 2020, when Michael Saylor shifted from cash to Bitcoin as the company’s reserve asset. The MSTR stock has significantly benefited from this move, becoming the best-performing major asset since the adoption of Bitcoin.
Leading the Pack Among Bitcoin Treasuries
Strategy leads other Bitcoin treasury companies. MARA Holdings, the second-largest holder, possesses 50,000 BTC compared to Strategy’s 601,550 BTC.
Strategy is setting the standard as more companies integrate Bitcoin into their treasuries. Data indicates that there are at least sixty Bitcoin treasury companies worldwide.
Strategy is also the third-largest Bitcoin holder globally, surpassed only by Satoshi Nakamoto and BlackRock, which hold 1.12 million and 731,527 BTC, respectively.
