Ripple Invests $5 Million in APAC Blockchain Research

Ripple Labs has announced a $5 million investment to further its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) in the Asia-Pacific region. This funding will support academic research and cultivate blockchain expertise across several countries.

The initiative builds on Ripple's existing partnerships. Previously, UBRI had already committed:

  • $1.1 million to Yonsei University (South Korea)
  • $1.5 million to Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo (Japan)
  • Over $3 million to Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore (Singapore)
  • $1.3 million across Australian National University and Victoria University (Australia)

This latest investment includes new grants for universities in Taiwan and Australia. Specific projects include:

  • Development of an AI agent network on the XRP Ledger at Nanyang Technological University.
  • Exploration of real-world asset (RWA) tokenization at National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (Taiwan).

Professor Yang Liu of Nanyang Technological University highlighted the impact of the grants, stating, "With our current grant, we are developing an autonomous AI agent network on the XRP Ledger... We believe this innovation will be pivotal in shaping the future of AI." Echo Huang, a professor at National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, expressed similar excitement regarding the RWA tokenization project.

Ripple's Broader Commitment to Education

This announcement follows Ripple's previous commitments to education, including a $25 million investment in RLUSD, a stablecoin backed by Ripple, to US education nonprofits and the launch of the National Cryptocurrency Association with a $50 million grant aimed at improving crypto education in the US.
