Polygon Co-founder Steps Down

Mihailo Bjelic, a co-founder of the Ethereum scaling solution Polygon, has resigned from his position at Polygon Labs. While leaving his day-to-day role, Bjelic affirmed his continued support for Polygon and his ongoing passion for the cryptocurrency industry.

Bjelic's Departure and Industry Reaction

Bjelic announced his resignation on May 23rd via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating he would be "cheering from the sidelines." His decision has generated considerable discussion within the Polygon community and broader cryptocurrency circles. Many view his departure as a loss for Polygon, given its recent significant developments. Fellow co-founder Sandeep Nailwal praised Bjelic’s contributions, highlighting his crucial role in Polygon's success. Other prominent figures in the crypto space shared messages of support and acknowledgement of Bjelic's impact.

While Bjelic hasn't disclosed his future plans, he assures continued involvement in the crypto space. This follows the departure of other early founders, Jaynti Kanani and Anurag Arjun, in the past two years. Arjun's departure coincided with the spin-off of Avail, a Web3 data availability and consensus layer, into an independent entity.

Recent Polygon Developments

Bjelic's resignation comes amidst a period of significant activity for Polygon. Recent partnerships and announcements include:

  • March 25th: DigiShares announced it would bring tokenized real estate trading to Polygon via RealEstate.Exchange (REX).
  • January 16th: Jio Platforms, a major Indian mobile network operator, partnered with Polygon Labs to integrate Web3 and blockchain capabilities into its services.

These milestones underscore Polygon's continued growth and innovation despite the change in leadership.
