David Plouffe Joins Coinbase's Advisory Council
David Plouffe, a former advisor to Vice President Kamala Harris's 2024 presidential campaign, has joined Coinbase's Global Advisory Council. This appointment marks one of Plouffe's first roles in crypto and policy since leaving the campaign.
Coinbase announced Plouffe's addition alongside other former lawmakers and industry leaders. The council will advise the exchange on navigating US and international policies, and its role in future elections.
At Coinbase's State of Crypto Summit, Plouffe highlighted the importance of engaging with crypto-enthusiasts who may be undecided voters. He stated, "Crypto may be the entrance, but then you can talk about your economic plans beyond that…"
Coinbase's Political Engagement
Plouffe's appointment underscores Coinbase's ongoing political activity. CEO Brian Armstrong has previously shown support for the GENIUS stablecoin bill and engaged with the Trump administration. This proactive approach aligns with the addition of Chris LaCivita, Trump's 2024 co-campaign manager, to the advisory council in January.
The council also includes former US Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Pat Toomey, indicating a bipartisan approach, although the strong Trump ties remain noticeable. Former President Trump himself addressed the Coinbase summit via a prerecorded message, outlining his future crypto policies, including support for the GENIUS Act and a digital asset market structure bill.
