Nifty Gateway to Close in February 2026 Amid NFT Market Decline

Crypto News

Nifty Gateway, a pioneering NFT marketplace, will shut down operations in February 2026, highlighting another major exit in the struggling sector.

The Gemini-owned platform announced on X that it will close on February 23, 2026. Users have approximately one month to withdraw any remaining NFTs or funds as the platform has entered withdrawal-only mode.

A notice on Nifty Gateway's homepage informs users to withdraw assets via a Gemini Exchange account or directly to a bank through Stripe. Users with NFTs, ETH, or US dollar balances will receive email instructions for asset withdrawal, with a strong recommendation to complete the process by February.

Nifty Gateway's Impact and Transition

Launched in 2020, Nifty Gateway played a significant role in making NFTs accessible to a mainstream audience by allowing credit card purchases. The platform was known for its curated drops from notable artists like Beeple and Grimes. At its peak in mid-2021, Nifty Gateway facilitated over $300 million in sales. However, as the NFT market cooled, the company rebranded as Nifty Gateway Studio in April 2024, focusing on onchain creative projects and brand partnerships.

Gemini, which acquired Nifty Gateway in 2019, stated that closing the platform will enable the crypto exchange to focus on its broader strategy of developing a comprehensive super app, while still supporting NFTs through the Gemini Wallet.

Market Movements: Animoca's Acquisition

In a related development, Animoca Brands acquired Somo, a gaming and digital collectibles firm, to integrate it into its blockchain ecosystem. This acquisition coincided with a short-term rebound in the NFT market in early 2026, where the total market capitalization rose by 20% to over $3 billion.
