Mask Network Founder Loses $4 Million in Crypto

Suji Yan, founder of the Web3 browser extension Mask Network, recently confirmed the theft of $4 million in cryptocurrency from his personal wallet. The incident occurred on his birthday, highlighting the vulnerability of even experienced individuals in the crypto space.

Initial reports suggest the attack was likely an offline, manual attack taking place over 11 minutes. Yan speculates a private key compromise might have occurred during a brief absence from his phone. He stated, "I was in a private gathering...my phone was away for some minutes when I was using the restroom. I trust my friends, but this is a nightmare for everyone."

Stolen Funds Traced

Security firm Cyvers tracked the stolen assets—including ETH, USDT, WETH, and MASK—as they were moved to multiple addresses. The attacker initially consolidated the funds into a single address before converting them to ETH and distributing them across six different addresses.

Yan has engaged SlowMist and ZachXBT to assist with recovery efforts and is cooperating with law enforcement. He plans to provide further updates once a formal report is available. He emphasized the likely offline nature of the attack, contrasting it with the recent Bybit hack attributed to malicious code.

Yan stated, "I hope if this is the offline case – you should confront me directly. Crypto is not a dark forest and I will not let it be."
