Kuvi.ai Unveils Forensic Report on Altura Exploit

Kuvi.ai, an Agentic Finance platform, has released a comprehensive forensic report detailing the backdoor minting exploit that previously impacted Altura. This follows Kuvi's recent acquisition of Altura, a Web3 infrastructure platform focused on simplifying blockchain game development.

The investigation, conducted by Kuvi’s analysts, legal advisors, and community members, involved on-chain forensics, code reviews, and interviews. The goal was to identify the cause of the exploit, those responsible, and the measures needed to restore community trust.

Key Findings:

  • A backdoor was embedded in Altura’s Ethereum bridging contract by a former developer.
  • The developer admitted to the act, claiming it was unintentional.
  • The vulnerability led to the unauthorized minting of approximately 147 million ALU tokens, valued at about $1.45 million.

“This was more than a technical exploit; it was a breach of trust,” said Jay Nasr, CTO of Kuvi.ai and lead investigator. “When we acquired Altura, it was essential to fix the damage and uncover exactly what happened. Altura’s community deserves transparency, and our industry deserves accountability.”

Legal Action and Future Plans

Kuvi has filed a criminal report with Canadian authorities, a rare step in such cases, to pursue all avenues of recovery. Beyond the investigation, Kuvi has already begun restructuring Altura's operations, including streamlining expenses and renewing strategic partnerships, such as the Immutable partnership.

“Altura is moving forward with clarity and purpose,” added Dylan Dewdney, CEO of Kuvi.ai. “We took control of this project as professionals, and this report demonstrates our commitment to facing challenges head-on with transparency and rigor.”

The full report is available to the Altura community, with a live update and AMA hosted by Kuvi/Altura leadership.
