Bitchat Arrives on Apple App Store

Bitchat, the decentralized messaging application spearheaded by Jack Dorsey, is now live on Apple’s App Store. The Block CEO announced the launch in a recent statement.

The beta version of Bitchat was initially unveiled earlier this month. The app facilitates encrypted peer-to-peer communication using Bluetooth mesh networks. This design removes the need for internet connectivity and improves resistance to censorship and network disruptions.

Key Features and Design

Bitchat operates without central servers or user accounts, making it ideal for use in areas with limited or no internet access, like protests or disaster zones. Its core features include:

  • Decentralized Communication: Uses Bitcoin network for secure messaging.
  • Offline Functionality: Operates via Bluetooth mesh networks.
  • Censorship Resistance: No central servers ensure messages cannot be easily blocked.

Dorsey's Commitment to Decentralization

This launch underscores Dorsey’s ongoing dedication to Bitcoin and decentralized technologies. Since leaving his role as Twitter CEO in 2021, Dorsey has concentrated on developing Bitcoin infrastructure and open-source projects through Block.

Block achieved another milestone last week by entering the S&P 500, marking it as the second crypto-focused firm in the index. This highlights the increasing importance of digital asset companies in mainstream financial benchmarks.

Market Performance

Block shares have seen a positive trend, climbing 11% over the last five trading days. The stock experienced a slight increase in pre-market trading recently.
