Binance Removes Seed Tag From Five Tokens

Binance announced it would remove the Seed Tag from Bonk (BONK), EigenLayer (EIGEN), ether.fi (ETHFI), Pudgy Penguins (PENGU), and Pepe (PEPE) on July 21, 2025. This decision follows a standard review process that assessed each project’s progress, transparency, and risk level. This move signals increased maturity for these tokens.

The Seed Tag is used to mark projects that are new, volatile, or carry higher risks. Binance uses this tag to inform users about potential fluctuations and uncertainties during the early stages of a project.

Evaluation Criteria

Binance's review considered several criteria:

  • Developer activity
  • Trading volume
  • Liquidity
  • Network stability
  • Community engagement

BONK, EIGEN, ETHFI, PENGU, and PEPE met Binance’s standards across these benchmarks, leading to the removal of the Seed Tag.

Further parameters included responsiveness to Binance’s due diligence, consistent public communication, and the absence of fraudulent or negligent activities. Changes in project leadership or ownership were also considered.

Binance also monitored for any unjustified increases in token supply or significant shifts in tokenomics. The absence of such activity for these five tokens further supported the decision to remove the Seed Tag.

Impact on the Tokens

While removing the Seed Tag changes the perceived risk status, Binance confirmed that all related services—such as spot and futures trading, staking, and savings—will remain unaffected. The update strictly involves the visibility of the Seed Tag on the exchange platform.

Binance has stated that the Seed Tag is designed to inform users, not restrict access. The platform’s ongoing reviews are part of a broader strategy to promote a transparent and sustainable crypto environment. Historically, this is seen as a positive signal, boosting investor confidence.
