The FBI has announced a major breakthrough in a shocking cryptocurrency kidnapping case in Chicago, involving $15 million in stolen digital assets. In October 2023, a family of three and their caregiver were abducted and held for five days. The perpetrators forced the victims to transfer cryptocurrency funds before their release.
The Kidnapping and Arrest
Court documents reveal that six individuals were involved in the kidnapping. Authorities arrested one suspect, Zehuan Wei, upon attempting to enter the United States. The FBI is actively pursuing five other suspects: Fan Zhang, Huajing Yan, Shengnan Jiang, Shiqiang Lian, and Ye Cao. The arrest of Wei prompted some suspects to flee to China via Mexico.
