The Latest Space Race? –

[ad_1]

If you go on Twitter today you might be overwhelmed with the amount of people talking about the ‘next big’ Metaverse project. There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of projects all racing to be the leading virtual space. But what does it mean to be the biggest ‘home’ of the digital world? Why are massive companies such as Meta and national governments like South Korea so interested in this virtual space, that they’re willing to spend billions of dollars on their Metaverse development and offerings?

There has always been competition amongst individuals, companies, and countries to try to be ahead of the curve. From the USA vs. USSR space race, to the four minute mile, there is always a race to be the leader of the pack. We are a competitive species and the Metaverse is the latest in a long line of one-upmanship. This race is more than likely fueled by dollars and cents or Ethereum and Bitcoin, entrepreneurs across the globe are turning to the untapped audiences that digital platforms could hold, and are realizing the opportunity to create and sell real world products.

But there is something different about the projects in the Web3.0 space that makes this competition a little healthier than what has come before. Web3.0, NFTs, and the Metaverse are all now synonymous with each other and the culture being created within is:

  1. Social in its nature, companies and projects seem to get on and help each other, leveraging relationships through social media to do so.

  2. Transparent, everything on the blockchain is traceable so major misdemeanors can’t take place without the community seeing it and calling it out thanks to the first point.

The abundance of viable projects begs the question which Metaverse will you prefer? Even the answer to this question is multifaceted, similar to asking a music fan what their favorite gig was, the answer is invariably different each time it’s asked, as humans have different tastes and interests that ebb and flow.

If you have children, Sandbox or Fluf World may appeal more, if you’re a ‘Big Bang Theory’ type of person perhaps the Dystopian nature of Somnium Space might be your flavor of Metaverse. An interesting one to look out for at the moment is Ethereum Towers, based in a ‘near perfect’ reality, their ‘land’ offerings are in the form of an Apartment NFT set within two skyscrapers in a fully designed VR first protocol called Ethereum Worlds.

The reflection of reality means that a lot of the barriers to entry to some of the more fantasy/ adventure type Metaverses (learning the lore and being a character within a story) are removed. In Ethereum Towers you are there as yourself, even down to your avatar which creates a virtual you from a selfie using Ready Player Me tech. This realism allows the owner of an apartment or a visitor to Ethereum Worlds the chance to socialize and do business very much like they do in the real world but from the comfort of their own home. The introduction of their utility token $TWR coming late this year means that you could even make in-world purchases or rent your apartment out when not using it.

Interestingly, Ethereum Towers have disrupted the competitive element of different projects by partnering with whom the Web2.0 mindset would see as their competitors. On launch they gave other NFT organizations such as World of Women and Audius a floor of apartments within the towers to use or to give away to their own communities. Rather than blocking these projects out and playing the zero sum game, these guys have been smart and bought other like minded projects onboard for the ride, which has paid dividends when building their own community. So the question you need to ask yourself when choosing a virtual home is not who will be first, best or biggest but who will be there on the floor above, below or next door to you in your digital home from home, you may be surprised to find your favorite PFP or project within Ethereum Towers.
