Ripple Partners With Lotus Cars To ‘Bring Automotive NFTs to the XRP Ledger’

British automotive company Lotus Cars, which manufactures sports cars and racing cars, has announced “plans to launch into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).”

In its press release, Lotus said that fo its first NFT collection it is working with NFT PRO and Ripple (which is “providing technical support” on the XRP Ledger).

It also mentioned that “the partnership between Lotus and NFT PRO marks the car brand’s debut in the Web3 space by creating a community of – and exciting new opportunities for – Lotus customers, NFT collectors and crypto-fans.”

It went on to say that NFTs are “the next innovative project from Lotus Advanced Performance, the division of the business launched earlier this year.” Each NFT in the collection was “created in-house by Lotus Design” and will 'pay tribute to the pioneering spirit of the iconic performance car brand.

Simon Lane, Director, Lotus Advanced Performance, had this to say:

Lotus has always been about cutting-edge innovation, and entering the Web3 space in this way, with a truly customer-focused NFT programme, is another excellent example of that. Partnering with NFT PRO, a real expert in this field, means we are guaranteed to deliver truly memorable content for a new digital community of Lotus fans.

And Christian Ferri, CEO at NFT PRO, stated:

NFT PRO has been chosen by Lotus to help it make a seamless entry into the world of Web3… It’s a privilege to partner with such an iconic British automotive brand and to help the Lotus Advanced Performance team connect with a new generation of fans. This announcement is only the beginning for this collaboration.

In January, legendary supercar maker Automobili Lamborghini (“Lamborghini”) embraced the world of digital assets by announcing the release of its first non-fungible token (NFT) collection, which is called “Space Time Memory”, next month.

Per Lamborghini’s press release, Swiss artist Fabian Oefner was chosen to design this collection of NFTs since “his work is known to explore the boundaries between time, space, and reality.”

The press release also mentioned that “the project is composed of two different elements—a physical artwork in the form of the Lamborghini Space Key and a digital piece that has yet to be unveiled.”

Oefner had this to say:

What I was interested in by creating this project is the intersection between the digital and the physical world… The car and its components, something physical and real, gets transformed into something digital that never existed. And the carbon fiber piece, something physical and tangible, serves as a key to access the digital experience of the art piece. In both cases, there is metamorphosis from the physical to the digital world.

The press release went on to say that “scanning the QR code Oefner inscribed upon the carbon fiber of the Space Key once it returned from space grants access to the NFT, blurring the lines between the physical and the digital.”

According to a report by The Verge, Oefner’s design for the NFT features one of the automaker’s popular cars drifting through the blackness of space and disintegrating into its component parts. As noted by The Verge, the artistic style of Lamborghini’s NFT stands in stark contrast to the popular cartoon images of the Bored Ape series.
