Bitvavo Gets EU MiCA License

Bitvavo Secures EU MiCA License

Bitvavo, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has received a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). This license allows Bitvavo to operate across all 30 nations within the European Economic Area (EEA).

The MiCA regulatory framework, effective since December 2024, harmonizes crypto regulations across the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Bitvavo's license signifies a significant step towards regulatory compliance and market expansion within Europe.

MiCA License: A Growing Trend

Several other exchanges have also secured MiCA licenses, including:

  • Four exchanges in the Netherlands (December 2024)
  • OKX, Crypto.com, and Bitpanda (Malta)
  • Kraken (Ireland)
  • Coinbase (Luxembourg)
  • Bybit (Austria)
This demonstrates a growing trend of crypto companies prioritizing regulatory compliance within the EU.

Bitvavo's Expansion Plans

"This license provides clarity, confidence, and enables Bitvavo to fulfill its ambition: to become the leading digital asset trading platform in Europe," stated Mark Nuvelstijn, CEO and co-founder of Bitvavo. Bitvavo, already a major player (largest globally in the EUR spot market), holds registrations in France, Austria, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.
